Eva: A new open source autopilot!

Arduino is awesome, and the autopilots based on them are great. Not only do they support an incredible number of external devices, but also don’t scare away the novice developers. Easy programming and versatility are nice but the cost at which they come at is somewhat of a letdown.…

Open-Source Cars

Something has been running through my head and I want to see what other people think. Am I the only one crazy enough to really want an open-source automobile? My background is in automotive, and I can see ardu-based (or something similar) hardware and software being easily integrated to cars. I just saw a Wired article on 3-D printing a car, and it got my brain spinning even more. Any…

Open source G10 quad frame

I have just finished the design and prototype phase of my open source quad frame. Its a 1.5mm G10 frame for 10"-12" props. I am in the process of designing a two axis gimbal for it, but to do this i need access to a faster prototyping process. I have entered the instructables shopbot contest and I really hope that i can win that as it will make prototyping so much easier. I've spent approximately 3 months on this design so id really appreciate it if when downloading the dxf…

Open Rover

Having seen how easily robotics projects are done with an iCreate, I have wanted to develop a similar platform for outdoor use. I was hoping that iRobot would release a cheaper less durable version of the Packbot or one of its smaller siblings but that doesn’t look like it will be happening any time soon.

My initial plans were to design the platform in the same vein as the Packbot with treads and flippers, if not flippers, a versatile tread…

Chip design, open source, and DIY: Part 2, open source issues

Above: Concept for an "abstract layout" workflow that could reconcile open source circuit designs with "closed" process design rules and libraries. First the designer would generate an abstract layout by instancing cells for various components. The above example shows a 2-input AND gate,…

Kicking off two open source optical flow / vision sensor projects (Finally!)

I would like to "formally" announce two open source projects related to optical flow / programmable vision sensors. These are based on some of the optical flow techniques developed at Centeye, but in the spirit of "open source" are meant to be hacked/modified/copied any way a user deems fit. In both cases, the…

Cheap Scratch-Built Drone from Scrap and Crap (FreePilot) - Part 0 [NEED YOUR HELP]

I want to share my journey of designing a drone in India, start to finish, hopefully for cheap and mainly built from recycled items to keep the costs down.

I started this project as a free-time project, but I would like to carry it on as a mainstream project with help from you…
