Deep Reaper Final Adventures (and crash)

An exciting, action-packed compilation of the best flights from the last few months of my FPV Deep Reaper's life, featuring lots of fun proximity flying at various locations around Colorado's Front Range. At the end is the video of my plane's unfortunate demise when I accidentally flew through the signal beam of a TV tower on Mt. Morrison, causing my elevon gyros to…

Small FPV Setup 2.4Ghz

200 mW TX on a 120mAh Lipo runs about 30 mins. Total weight with Lipoly 6.2 Grams, only 3.6 Grams with a 5V regulator so it runs of the main battery. The image is not great on a single Lipo cell. I will try it connected to a spare port on the RX see what the signal is like.…

Low Cost Thermal Pan Tilt Zoom (FLIR PTZ) Gimbal WISH LIST

What would you like to see in a thermal pan tilt platform to make it effective for UAV usage?

I am with a company called SPI Corp and we manufacture a low cost multi sensor pan tilt platform called the M1-D. The M1-D initially was developed for use on ground vehicles but due to its light weight, small size and low cost it has become very popular with folks in the aerial imaging world…

Taking the New Bird Out for Turkey Day

Hiking Sweeney Ridge on Thanksgiving morning was a perfect time for testing out my newly completed quadcopter.

This spot in the mountains, 1200 feet over SFO and the Pacific ocean, seemed like a perfect place to test out my newly completed quadcopter and my newly acquired piloting…

HackHD: FPV Source + 1080p recording

My interests tend towards high-altitude balloons, but I find that there's more than enough overlap in the technology here to keep me coming back (in case you haven't noticed, there's some darn cool stuff that happens here).  So far, I haven't had a reason to actually post to the blog, but this might be relevant enough to justify consuming your time: a camera that is…

Testing the GoPro 2

Ive been doing some testing with the new GoPro2 HD video camera. I bought it out of necessity after loosing my GoPro HD in flight :( But, having the HD jump ship was a blessing in disguise, because the new GP2 boasts some impressive features.

While shooting in 1080P, you can choose 3 different field of view (fov) settings: Wide at 170, medium at 127, and narrow at 90. Heres a video I made testing the different fov settings on a Skywalker foam airplane.…

ArduCopter-shot video presenting our RC club : Diest Model Club

Here's a video I made for our rc club's website.  Almost all aireal video is shot with my ArduCopter hexacopter and a cheap 50 euro Kodak ZX-1 cam.  Firmware versions flown are 2.0.46 to 49.

For shooting the planes in flight I used a 7" carDVD LCD monitor bolted to my transmitter.

The intention was to show the website visitors what can be…

IP Camera Vision Software

I have knocked up a quick little labVIEW app to do the following things:

  • Acquire images from a Axis 207MW IP camera (wireless).
  • Snap photos and save them to file with a meaningful name.
  • Option to automatically save each frame as a .jpg (to create mosaics).
  • Record .AVI files…

Mobile Video Recorders for your ground Station

Since I have started flying with wireless cameras and recording my flights on the ground hasn't worked out so well.  First I tried recording video straight to my computer with the Diamond VC500 One-Touch video capture device $35 at Fry's, but when I would replay my video's  they were very skippy as well as…

We have 2 camera on the plane, one of camera on tail, other one on right side of plane(45 degree angled to the ground) Side camera perspective is unbelivable and i'm strongly suggesting to watch all video :)

Ardustation's tracking hardware

here is my antenna tracker. A simple BCAC (brain controlled analogic cut :D) wood case. Simply, cheap, working.
In the video a first test with an EZ* flying autonomous, this way I can record the AT working.

About Video Transmitter

I know that most countries have legislation in terms of radio / video transmitters. I also know that many people do not always comply with this legislation.

What are your experiences and opinions with video transmitters?

1. Frequency

2. Power

3. Range

4. Range with Antenna tracker.

5. Effect on GPS signal.

6. LAW

I know that there is no reason to discuss range since the law says in line of sight when… Continue
