Comment by Jesse on May 16, 2012 at 2:18pm Yikes... someone being careless.
Comment by Bradley J Carr on May 16, 2012 at 2:28pm Maybe. Or the pilot thought he saw something. I am not saying it wasn't but sometimes you think you see things that aren't really there. I am from KS so it wasn't me!!!! Plus I can hardly get off the ground to far so 8000ft is really pushing it.

8000 ft...that's a little more than careless. It's reckless, and activity like this is a threat to all our legal activities. Whoever is responsible should be prosecuted. This all assumes it was an R/C Aircraft to begin with. Unfortunately the assumption will be that it was even without any proof.
Comment by Jack Crossfire on May 16, 2012 at 2:50pm It was 2700 ft above ground level & 8000 ft above sea level.

8000ft above sea level is in the typical altitude range for migrating birds. Noe idea if the season is right for that, and with the pilot only having seen "something", there will most likely never be any clear answer to what it was.

Yeah, or it could have been a bird.

If it was a flyer, it'll be posted somewhere so that we all can get a bad wrap!
Comment by Mike Bristol on May 16, 2012 at 10:12pm Still 2700 AGL is well into controlled airspace in that area. It wasn't very specific as to exactly where this happened but there is a lot of controlled airspace in that area. Class B above, Class C at Centennial and Class E to 700 if memory serves. Hopefully the pilot was mistaken, but if he says it was an RC I'm inclined to believe him.
Comment by Greg Fletcher on May 16, 2012 at 10:38pm That picture is very misleading, or was it meant to lead to fear? "We don't know what it was,but it could have crashed a jet into our city"! Typical news hype.
Comment by Mike Bristol on May 16, 2012 at 10:45pm Yeah that was a pretty sensationalist news story. I would not like to see what the outcome of a Falcon Vs small UAV would be. I've seen what birds do :)
