This is why I dont watch local news.

I think this proves that UAV's have become a household word now, and possibly will become the focus of the latest media scare campaign. Soon they'll be making movies about about a group of troubled teens who use UAV's to commit crime.... ( I had a modified car before the whole "Fast and Furious" explosion, so I've been through this before. )
I dont think the average American is aware of how capable homebrew UAVs are these days, I definitely didnt know until I ran across this site a few months ago and decided to build my own and when I show people what my plane can do theyre always amazed. I think when most people hear "UAV" or "drone" they still see a military grade Predator type plane and associate the idea with a large organization with deep pockets.
Comment by Krzysztof Bosak on May 18, 2012 at 3:39am In the article we can witness some tendency for oversimplicity and fearmongering:
"Three years ago, a bird strike took down a commercial airliner that managed to land safely in the Hudson River. "
Actually, a few dozens of nearly simultaneous birdstrikes took down this aircraft. While the danger exists, it is not like 'you touch - game over' despite the speeds involved. One could mention a recent crash of C-130 Hercules with large military UAV that ended very poorly for the UAV.
