Emin: I am not talking about the type of alu. tubes you typically find in a hardware store, but high grade thin walled tubes used in R/C helicopters. I have a bunch of .90 size helicopter boom tubes from HobbyKing costing $2.99. They have a 25mm outer diameter and is 830mm long. Weight is 105grams. Plenty strong, and very rigid. Compared to the price of proper 3K carbon tubes they are practically free. I am willing to add a little weight, at least for the first prototypes.

Martin: If the Z15 could hold a bigger camera (it is currently built around the Sony NEX 5/7 cameras), it would be perfect.

John can you please post link of those aluminium tubes..also do we need "proper" CF tubes wich are 100$ for 1m or we can use something cheeaper..i had carbon hexa from t-rex 550,600,700 boom tubes from HK,pure shit,now i am stucked with 21.5mm OD clamps and it is almost impossible to find proper CF tubes of that dimension,any sugestion?

The irony is that those $2.99 metal booms are much better then "fake" $30 carbon fiber ones.

Not sure about the time frame, but looks like I will get access to a S800 + Z15 gimbal system. I'll take some detailed pictures of the design when I do.

Emin,  any info on that Cinestar "clone" that you posted pictures of?  Did you make it?  How's the performance compared to the cinestar gimbal?  Is it using the same servos, pots,  and gear ratio (seems less of a ratio from the pictures)?

jonathan,no,i did not make cinestar clone..but i do have some sugestions if you go that way..first you should use tubes of 20mm OD,it is easer to find them than 25mm OD,be cearful with tubes from China i strongly sugest to find some German or EU shop to buy what you pay for..like this one
