Building a strong UAV.
I added a cut off switch was fitted, the xt60 at the rear.
I glued a dean plug with e proxy to the wing and with glue sticks glued the airspeed sensor to the dean plug.
I melted the middle bar so I can insert a 3300 mah 11.1v battery and I added the fpv equipment in the middle.
Comment by Muhammad Al-Rawi on March 11, 2013 at 12:53pm Very nice.
Not too sure about having the GPS on the motor like that, but if it works, it works.
How much is your all up weight?
Comment by Christiaan van Vollenstee on March 11, 2013 at 12:58pm Why would you say not having the GPS next to the motors is a good idea?
Comment by Boston UAV on March 11, 2013 at 2:19pm Great FPV plane that is very underrated!
I haven't placed an APM in mine yet, but it's on my todo list. Interested to see if you get yours working well.
If you haven't flown yours yet I'll make a couple of suggestions, based on my experiences:
The RC Groups thread is full of people who violate those first two rules and wonder why it doesn't fly well or snaps in half when they crash during the first hand launch.
Comment by Muhammad Al-Rawi on March 11, 2013 at 2:27pm I imagine EMI would degrade the signal quality to some extent. I don't know that for a fact, though.
Looks like I've found something to try over spring break :)
Comment by Grant West on March 11, 2013 at 4:03pm I have been looking to get an X-5, but I have not found a place in the US that stocks them. Does anyone know of a US based store that sells them? I am not too keen on paying $40 for shipping.
Comment by Bret C on March 11, 2013 at 6:29pm Are there spars in the wings of the X5? If so, where are they placed and what are they made of? Lastly, is there anything recommended to beef up the leading edge of the wing?
Comment by Boston UAV on March 11, 2013 at 6:32pm @Bret C
No spars. If you keep things lite you won't have any issues.
Comment by Boston UAV on March 11, 2013 at 6:35pm From my post in this thread:

Comment by Christiaan van Vollenstee on March 11, 2013 at 11:55pm @Boston : My CG is an inch in front of the two nipples and the heaviest is my 5.8ghz Tx and camera and cables. I am very interested to see if the GPS get interference because I see a lot of people put their Video Tx at the back and they do not have any issues regarding signal.
@Bret C : There is a very nice tutorial on YouTube "Building Skywalker x5" which I think is a 9 part series of clips which shows you how to put spars and to really toughen the x5 up with the use of nylon ropes.
Comment by Bret C on March 12, 2013 at 7:49am Chris -thank you for the suggestion on YouTube. I will watch it later tonight.
Thanks!
Bret C
