Randy MacKay and Jiro Hattori did an ArduCopter demo at Tokyo Hackerspace and according to the Robot Dreams report it set an attendance record! See the full article for more pictures and details. Sounds like fun but crowded (you need more demo space, Randy!)

Randy, glad you're emphasizing the safety aspects! I've just blogged my thoughts on safety -- including a scary picture! -- that I'm showing all newcomers. The idea is not to shock them or to scare them off, but just to let them know these small units are not toys and shouldn't be treated as such.

I was hoping that video wouldn't get out! The demo space was indeed far too small and although I armed everyone with chairs, bags and umbrellas and warned them of the danger before I started, I won't be demo-ing in that small a space again!
Putting that aside, it was a great event with lots of questions and I'm sure there will be some more diydroners from Japan joining soon!

Thank you for posting our second exposure of DIY drones in Japan. We have more than 20 audience in Japanese very compact house. Actually, Randy fly the Quad for 1 minutes. It is so scary but fun.( I am not sure the firmware version, but very stable,) The interaction from member of Tokyo Hacker Space are technically high. We enjoy very good evening.
