The DJI Wookong multi rotor M was put through a set of tests this afternoon, the first was normal flight, we then moved to position hold and changed the altitude, the DJI proved to be extremely stable in flight and held a very solid position in the sky, when the altitude change was done in GPS position hold it didn't drift, it maintained its position, the Return To Launch was the final test we did, it saw the copter back to home with only a few meters from where it took off! The DJI will rise to 20 meters if below 20 meters or stay at the same height if above for the RTL, when above the take off position it lowers to the ground and kills the engines!

This to date has to be the best multi rotor controller I have seen in action!! I know ACM will catch up soon :)

    Hello Ramesh,

     

    It was a good flight, have you seen this other one we did, there was a little more wind about in this video! We also shot another video using the DJI F450 Flame Wheel with the WKM, the WKM was on stock settings in some tough conditions.... :)

    The last flight was in the best/worst of the wind. Its a long video so if you wanted to fast forward to the last 10 min's you will get to see some of the best flight in the higest of wind on the day.

  • To add to this DJI does have a full range of autonomous modes that are very nice but that is another 2K 

  • .I dont think Arducopter is that far behind DJI. In fact my Heavy lift machines are actually slight more stable due to the range of the PID params. . DJI does have the ability to work to a high level out of the box on small frames and has far better alt hold. It takes a little getting used to because if you are high and start a descent you have to reduce power quite a lot as it wants to stay up there, On the way down it only wants to come straight down. If you want to move laterally then you have to add a lot of power to unhitch it. I have learned some valuable lessons with it. especially the false assumption that bigger is more stable.

    I yet support 5883L on my Vrimu and now i'm yet ready with stm32f4 and mpu6000 is yet possible to incorporate my library to AQ 3.0 for have a ready to fly firmware for stm32 ... need only some time to do it , at the moment i'm waiting that someone include the advanced feature on AQ before to start work whats your nick in Aq Forum ? mine is Redfox74
  • @ellison I believe that aeroquad are moving to a more structured library based approach so it should be good news all round

    For the Aeroquad STM32(Baloo).  I actually sourced a Canadian supplier, that seems to be giving us a good quote.  But, we're waiting on some minor changes for using the replacing the F1 on the original design with the F4.  I'd like to see both Aeroquad and Arducopter supported in the same HW.  Currently there are a few minor issues with the APM/Oilpan that make it not work right out of the box with Aeroquad. (i.e. use of HMC5883L magnetometer) 

    I like the idea of using Aeroquad for testing flight control algorithms, and applying them to Arducopter, which I consider to be a more structured, and mature code.  But, Aeroquad is starting to incorporate a lot more extraneous code, like GPS, waypoints, and ground station support.

  • May be they use other signal than GPS ? Franckfor atomic signal ? and combine both approch ?
