First Nitro APM2.0 Flight - Data Collection Only!

On New years Eve I went flying with my Nitro ArduPlane. Mainly to check my config settings since my last attempted flight. This time it went much better. after tweaking my Turnigy 9X it seems to by flying fine. Next up, full Mission!

Nice video.  One of the nice things about this site is we get to see videos from all over the place.  I guess you're in the states somewhere .. maybe near Las Vegas maybe?  Anyway..nice video.

Hi Archangel,

Flying nitro planes with APM is fun! My HotDog is my favourite plane at the moment.

We really should have a section in the docs for nitro setup tips, but here are a few in case you haven't run across them yet:

  • Set INS_MPU6K_FILTER nice and low if you have vibration problems. I use 10Hz on my HotDog (I deliberately setup my HotDog for maximum vibration in order to test this feature).
  • Set THR_SLEWRATE to around 30 percent or so, so that the throttle doesn't change too fast and stall the motor. This is particularly important when doing things like switching into AUTO
  • Set THR_PASS_STAB to 1, so that throttle is passed through directly in stabilisation modes, bypassing the throttle limits. This makes it possible to have a proper throttle cut switch which drops the throttle below THR_MIN to cut the engine.
  • Set THR_SUPP_MAN, so that when the throttle is suppressed before takeoff you have manual throttle control for tweaking the fuel mixture and testing the motor.

Cheers, Tridge

Wow , If you pay attention you can see the "jello period change", I just made that up, it's an aliasing based on the freq/rpm of the motor.

@Andrew

Thanks! I actually have been trying to set up the MPU6K_FILTER just for vibration. Luckily I have been spending more time redesigning my APM mount to eliminate vibration. All of the extras are more than helpful with many issues I have faced! I agree a preflight setup/checklist would do no only the Nitro part of the community good but everyone, as sometimes we all have the tendency to get caught up in the excitement of flying and forget something.

@ Randy

I am actually in the High Desert of Southern California.
