Flying in the wind & Building the Shrike (A future APM airplane)

We did some testing of the Raptor in the wind - stronger than we've ever done before and had some very compelling results: flying wings (or at least the Raptor) do awesome in the wind, i.e. hold a fairly good heading and can withstand most jarring. The Nova in the same situation could have been disastrous.

 

We also continued our effort to finish the Shrike - a flying wing w/ a fuselage that will be powered by an APM2.

    Saad: We used acrylic paint & packing tape to cover the wings... however I would NOT do it again, it's turing out to be a heavy combination... colored tape or simple monocote would be a much better solution.

     

    Brian: Thank you for your comment. We are going through a transition and working this stuff out. Stay with us! We're figuring out what is and what isn't working. Your comment helps us get in the right direction. As an FYI, this video was very applicable to our end goal, I'm not sure if you watched the whole thing, but building the shrike is critical as we are using that for our APM platform this month / year. Testing in the wind was to test how flying wings perform in high wind enviroments, and to see if that is something we have the piloting skills for. I see your point, we are working to connect all of this together. We are doing APM stuff this month, so look foreward to that!

    Hi Trent

    Normally like your blog but the last few I could not watch through...sorry but in the past I enjoyed them, but now it is going off the rails without direction and somewhat irrelevant to what I saw to what you had in the beginning.

    I don't get the random flying in the wind and what it has to do with DIY drones.

    Please go back to your original style where it was informative and you seemed to have a purpose in learning more about APM, etc.. Your beginners look at it had a great attraction. I thought that was much better and more relevant and where you had a great edge in what you are doing.
