FPV Racer X8 Quadcopter

Hello,

Ive recently crashed my FPV Racer (Pictures below).

The problem was I lost contact with the transmitter on my end and ended up falling from a 30 Meter Height onto hard concrete. Thought it would have completely destroyed the drone, but as i panicked and came to my destination which it fell to i realised the damage was not so bad.

As you can see from the pictures it broke all propellers, destroyed the battery and crushed the Receiver for my Spectrum Controller.

So what I'm trying to achieve now is this.

I have started to build a FPV Racer with an X8 setup to make the racer even faster, an a bit more reliable. Obviously its not the motor setup that makes it longer range, for that i will be attaching my Futaba controller so i can get longer range.

Here is a picture of my current progress, lol i know its just putting the motors onto the frame but bare with me i will update this thread soon and show you guys how it looks.

If anyone has any suggestions as to the best way to set this up or if you've already tried this and encountered any problems please let me know i really want to make this work.

Thanks!

  • Why not use a mini apm. Ive just buit a 330mm quad racer with mini apm external compass and GPS with fpv. Flies great.

  • My mini x8 has a naze32 flight controller loaded with cleanflight firmware and 8 motor connections.

  • awesome idea, but don't really see the point with a  naza! i wish cc3d or naze boards supported 8 rotors, then it would it be insane!

  • Here it is guys in all its glory.

The amount of wiring this thing has is insane... so i just tucked it all inside. Mind you its far from neat but ill take care of aesthetics later first i want to see if it flies

3701944910?profile=originalturning it on revealed not all the gyroscopes had been calibrated, so will have to do that and post (hopefully) a video tomorrow to let you guys see this thing fly

    Peaaaceeeeee

  • Here are some pics guys,

The first picture is how i put together the arms to hold both motors. Obviously had to use another set of arms to make that possible...

3701944292?profile=originalWill have to attach another part of the body on the bottom so it will be able to lift of and land otherwise it will just be a recipe for disaster.

Second progress pic. Ive connected all the motors to the power board and my naza and am trying to figure out the direction each motor is spinning..

3701944585?profile=originalHave slowly figured that out onto assembly! will post more pics as i go along...

Next step to put this whole thing together.

Watch this space, more updates to come.

  • Thats awesome! looks amazing, ill upload some pictures later on im practically taking the same approach to the build using two sets of arms

Im really interested to see how this thing flies! Is it a monster?

Yea andy ill be using a stronger batter or will try to. Hopefully the weight wont be too bad. Ill let you guys know how it all pans out

  • Here is how I mounted the motors on my mini x8. I used an extra set of arms separated by small standoff spacers and double side foam tape. Works and flies great.

  • rouble with x8 is current consumption means larger batteries are required, twice the motors and esc is another 250gm. You will probably lucky to get more than a couple of minutes out of a 2200 Lipo so long range wont be an issue. Its the sort of thing I would build though just to see. Often the calcs dont come anywhere near reality so good luck and keep us posted

  • Hello
Please can you explain me how you have mounted the second motor on the x8.
    Thanks
  • Ive decided to put a Naza onto the Quad and try working it with GPS for the very purpose of having the drone with soo much power that i am worried i wont be able to control it at all...

Hopefully by tomorrow the drone will be built and I will get to show you guys a clip or a picture so you can see what is happening and how the drone is responding.
