Grounded! Model airplane flights halted while President Obama visits San Francisco

The FAA routinely issues "NOTAMs" restricting aviation where top government officials are. This week it was San Francisco, where President Obama is visiting today and tomorrow. From the AMA alert:

"A new FDC NOTAM/TFR has been issued for San Francisco, CA and the San Francisco Bay area beginning at 5:01p on Tuesday, 5/25, until 12:30p PDT on Wednesday, 5/26. The TFR is issued for security purposes to cover VIP movement in this area. Model aircraft operations are prohibited in this area during the specific times of the TFR. Please note that TFRs are subject to change with very short notice. Check back often for the most current NOTAM/TFR information.

Timely alerts are also available on the web or on you cell phone at: Twitter.com/amagov.

First thought - they are taking this way too far.
Second thought - ok, maybe not.
I guess when they spend billions of dollars on security, it's not overkill to ground model aircraft.

I work near Chi and I have been an eye witness to it. The local private airport brings a lot of trafic patern flight over my building. Once I read about the ban in the Chi Tribune i checked faa.gov and there it was in plane English. Thou shalt not fly a kite or fire a rocket or fly your air hog in the TFR zone. There was no traffic in the pattern. I went to the county flying field and one older guy was cleaning the oil off his gasser and I ask him if he knew about the TFR. He didn't and packed up and got out. I sat there and had my lunch in my car. I noticed a heli approaching the field from the south east. It was black(well dark). A park cop pulled in rather quickly an got out of his car and looked all around.
I was the only one there so he took off and the heli took did a 180 and went back the way it came in. Coincidence, I think not.

Does anyone actually go through the trouble of digging these things up on faa.gov besides reading them on diydrones? This is his 2nd home & never noticed these things before.
