MR60

Menu of the day:

A quadcopter's failed auto mission as our apetizer, followed by our main course the flyaway of the chef, & our special search and rescue mission for dessert.

The auto mission was more simple as that you could die:

1-take off to altitude 40 meters

2-loiter undefinitely (waypoint 2 was never reached, the gremlins attacked before)

Specs of trainer quad (thank god that was not my main aerial platform): APM 2.5    firmware 3.0.1 custom 3DR based frame 880Kv motors, 11x4.7 props, 4S 4500 mah

@crashpilot: the song is an old hawaian song from beginning 1920. Title is OUA OUA.
  • BTW: What's that funny rescue song. Is that a language he is singing in?

Don't forget to report back here: http://flyawayclub.com

Maybe they will publish some statistics. I think DJI is also hard at work to keep up.

  • Not long after I started doing this I managed to hang my quad 50' up in a fir tree on our property. I discovered that I can still climb a tree when necessary - but it wasn't pretty.

  • I didn't have a flyaway but my plane landed in a tree...was having too much fun testing out the auto pilot and the battery died too far away and too low to get it closer to land in the clear, I stood under the tree and poked at it till it fell out with a long stick...no damage done.

  • I had to shoot a plane with a bow fishing rig once.  It killed it, but it was satisfying.

  • I keep trying to fly in the mountains; so far I've only managed to crash into trees.

Eventually made a grapple from a hatchet and some rope we happened to pack.  Works really well.

  • I always bring a climber monkey when I use my APM.

Other than than, I don't think there has ever been a situation that to such a high degree justifies a "Thanks, I owe you one!". I hope he got a beer or two. :)

  • hmm been there done that... :-( I put my hexa into a tree while practicing flying FPV around the oval... the tree survived, but only just  There were offers to cut it down... lol

Flyaway failed and could recover copter without buying new parts. Fix Flyaway hight to at least 80m AGL to stay clear from Douglas trees. Next time call the local women volleyball team to shoot your copter down. That will be a million click video on youtube.

Thanks for sharing this epic flyaway and professional rescue video!!
