I know one of the limitations (price-wise) of "cheap" LIDAR is the slip ring. I'm wondering... couldn't they use a Mercotak connector in place of the slip ring?

Lew, in the original publication describing the unit Neato said they were going to use a short range RF modem to communicate without the slipring. In the production models it looks like they moved to a slipring - presumably for pricing reasons (or maybe FCC issues?)
