As a member of Arducopter (maybe not so active anymore) I have started my own business on the side line. Its call Vertical Limits Aerial Photography. Recently I have just put up my website and then also decided to market some DIYDrones products directly in South African markets. I don't have e-commerce as yet and would first try the market out to see how big it is. I have a lot of experience in using DIYDrones products and thought I could help many possible clients out in the country. My main focus will be on providing preassembled kits (no soldering required, and pretested). I will also preload firmware on the autopilot which I believe proofs to be the most stable at the time of your purchase. I myself make use of this products on a daily business. My website gets updated on a regular basis (doing it myself and looks a bit unpolished).
I have also decided to put some specific kids together which I believe could server some clients better. My products will not be as cheap as other suppliers but I hope my knowledge and additional services would proof to be worth the price.
See attached some videos I have done lately:
Scottburgh Video Dec 2011 using my Hexa APM1 with 2.0.49 firmware. FPV flying.

Comment by Hein on February 7, 2012 at 12:21pm Hi Johann,
How many distributors are we in South Africa? I also recently found out about you. Wish you also good luck. If you are back in the market then surely there must be something going on here. I am wandering what our FAA rules are about selling these UAV products?
Hi Ellison,
Not sure about that one, maybe......if yes, then there is hope for business.
Hi Kernal,
Drop me a email at heinh@vlap.co.za so that I can forward a quote. Don't have it on my website as yet. Still working on some stock levels. Are you from South Africa? What is the latest on the 900Mhz Xbee status in South Africa? legal / not legal / not sure? We can not use 1.2Ghz because that will not work nice with 2.4Ghz radio.
Hi Martin,
Love the website. Looks like you are all sorted there.
Comment by Hein on February 7, 2012 at 12:24pm Just a general question. Are more internet buyers using PayPal in general with there purchases? I know that I normally just use PayPal but not sure if its the general move. I think moving my website to e-commerce with PayPal only will be more easier then supporting all kinds of credit cards.
Johann who are you using for e-commerce connection? not sure how this setup works. Basically what option are there and is it expensive?
Comment by Johann Van Niekerk on February 7, 2012 at 12:45pm Hi Hein
I would not say I came back into the market because sales where good, I never left the market , just had a ALOT of trouble with website people and e-commerce. but yes to be very frank its very expensive if you not a web designer and host your own server.
There is a world wide shortage of Xbee units Hein and Kernel is from th USA so that should tell you how short stocked the world is of xbees. there are a few Distributors around SA but only few comperensive ones that stock big range as the import tax and exchange rate makes it hard to stock a big range all the time.
best
Johann
Comment by Hein on February 7, 2012 at 1:16pm Thanx Johann for the info. Are you doing this business fulltime already? Do you use mweb and do they give the e-commerce connection or do you have to go to the bank directly? By the way I like your website.

Hein,
Thank you for your reply, I have a few more items to place in the store this month, I started out a year back about the same as Johann, the store here in the UK has grown a little :)
Xbees here are hard work! I have 40 Kits coming in and I can't get them here any sooner than the end of the month! I have cleaned out all the UK suppliers of stock which is good and bad....... I have thought about stocking the 900 MHz in the store but there is no market here for them as the UK is not allowed to use them.... :( they lok so good!!
Regards
Martin.
