Outstanding APM out of the box performance

Hi all,

Iam following APM since 1280, for remote sensing purposes. finally i used my two latest platforms ( Skiptrovamon & Bixler 2 and ground station for a full scale mission.

i have had-like many fellows from DIYdrones - a great success with AP from APM, but the think that made me really excited was the real plug n play performance.  i just connected everything on APM2 and Bixler, load the param file from wiki and threw it on the sky! the latest code recognized all my new gear automaticaly (solderd onboard GPS, external ublox, RFD900) and Mission planner UI guided me throu a 5min setup.

No tuning! nor Balancing for the extra GoPro, nothing!   I just flew for 5-7 minutes for the auto declination do its magic and then switched to Auto!

if you are a new comer searching for a cheap trusty platform and for a super DIY autopilot you are in the right place!!

cheers

James

Thaks you guys, from the Dev team and all the testers, for making it happen!

I would like to add:

-a great thanks to Michael O for the super features like WMS service support, video overlay and the very intuitive setup UI.

-a great thanks to the Devs for the novice add ons setup like telemetry, External GPS, V&C sensor.  Also for the rapid bug fixes , enhancement requests  and pre configured PID's.

The only think that i didnt figure out(yet) is why on MP, my plane looks always 35 degrees to the right. And how i can export-stream a mavlink message value, like GPS, to a third party program. lets say if iam monitoring a value and i want a custom alarm (other than ALT, Batt, waypoint etc)

From your screen shot, it would appear that the camera may be mounted on an angle(?)

yes Ric,  the front looking camera was taped to leading edge, with a slight downward and left looking angle
