Over at RCGroups, Clarkst has developed a cool quadcopter platform that looks very suitable for UAV use. Suggested price: $129. And it's even backpackable!

In fairness, this design is a bit short on features. The MIT design is lighter, more aerodynamic and provides both user and blade protection. By contrast this open-prop design has drag-inducing arms, and will cause and incur damage in a collision.

The most limiting factor of this design is its limited endurance with camera payload. With brushless motors that provide good torque, the max flight time with lithium batteries is less than 20 min.
