hey everyone
another update on the techpod flight testing:
2 hour long flight complete!
this flight was done with:
2 x 6000 mah 3s for 12000mah total
weight: 5.8 lbs
APC E11x7
charging the lipos now to get the mah used will post that number in a couple hours.
thanks to all my supporters at the techpod kickstarter project !
Comment by Greg Fletcher on September 14, 2012 at 8:02pm Well done Wayne!
I have always been a fan of efficiency. Two hours, no problem. Once you check the data, you will find more flight time. Are you using volts/amps monitoring? If not you should get one of these, and and APM for data logging if nothing else. The software all ready supports this, and logs all kinds of data.
Comment by wayne garris on September 14, 2012 at 8:33pm hey thanks.
I don't do amp monitoring . adds to voltage drop. I prefer to watch my amps on the charger and my volts in the air. I've got a uav dev board I will be adding soon. I've got one of the current sensors and will use it to tweak my next set up . LOW kv motor on 6cell. But will remove it for the real endurance run. watching the voltage is a better "fuel gauge" I have always felt. I think I smell three hours coming soon!

Comment by Harry on September 15, 2012 at 8:45am A very clean design. You dont get 2 hours with any old flat bottom airfoil and things hangin in the breeze.
Comment by wayne garris on September 15, 2012 at 9:15am I have had it out in ~15mph gusts. It handled it no problem. the techpod was designed expressly to fly with low drag, this lends naturally to wind performance. My attention to detail went beyond that, I also carefully calculated the airplanes pitch moment coefficient. This basically means that as the airspeed increases the plane does not pitch up (as long as the CG is neutral). I also tuned the airplanes CVA (center of vertical area) to help maximize cross wind performance. I think it will handle 25 knot winds just fine.
Gongradulations Wayne, i just backed you project, and i send you my hopes to reach your goal!
Regards
James

Have you posted regarding your Kickstarter project in the LinkedIn UAV related forums? I cannot wait to dump my MP autopilot into your airframe!

linkedin sounds like a good idea. will have to hit it up. Thanks for the support guys.
