About Me:

I'm a lapsed pilot, new to RC and drones. I'm a software engineer just getting into physical computing.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I built a DIY tricopter, using the kk2 board. The thing flies great until I crash it, which I do depressingly often. (I am flying the sim a lot lately to save $$$, lol). I just bought APM2.5 and a hexacopter kit. I'm planning to get that working and explore the world of autonomous flight, and FPV. The tricopter is fun for zooming around but I want something better able to carry FPV and a gopro, with improved range. My long term goal is to build something that will automatically follow a target and film it while avoiding obstacles like trees, signs, stray kids, police cars, etc. I would also like it to be able to land autonomously on a dedicated platform. Kind of like a carrier landing.

Rob Bartlett replied to Paul Henckel's discussion (noob, hexacopter) How do you get this thing off the ground? in ArduCopter User Group
"What Greg said.  Also, make sure your rudder controls move the yaw indicator in the right direction.  My "servo" was reversed and no matter what I did it wouldn't arm until I figured that one out."

"Just a wild guess, here, but I'm wondering if the huge DistToMav value played a part?  When it RTL'd, if it was trying to go to the MAV location, that might explain why RTL went flying off in some random direction..."

Rob Bartlett replied to Rob Avery's discussion Having RTL problem in ArduCopter User Group
"I have been having a glitch where it would RTL for no reason while just flying about in Stabilize.  Looking at the logs, I think that the RTL was triggered by a perceived low battery (the battery was fine, but the voltage did drop due to control…"

"Regarding the yaw, there's a setting, I believe it's called "waypoint yaw behavior", in the advanced settings part of MP.  You can tell it to face the next waypoint, maintain current yaw, etc. One of the settings controls which way it faces during…"
