About Me:

I am the Research and Development manager at a mid sized geomatics company. After discovering some of the amazing programming that was taking place using opencv and imagery from small UAS's, I became instantly hooked. I am building a Skywalker 168 currently and soon an X8.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

Aerial Mapping. I want to build fixed wing camera gimbals for small format metric cameras similar to large format camera gimbals. Huge missing piece. I am not sure why it has not been truly tackled yet!

"Will there be a gimbal option for this system? Also will the air vision software be compatible with the Solo?
Thanks"

"AKRCGUY,  have you filed for a site specific COA and received approval? I'm sorry to keep going back to the same point but everything in terms of the 333 is really strait forward and easy to do. Same goes for N number registration. I've been around…"

"Thanks UAS Pilot. So you have not received a UAS COA since the inception of the 333 process? Has anyone successfully requested and received a COA for commercial use other than the blanket COA? If so could you explain how long it took and any…"

"Thanks UAS Pilot. I figured this is the case based on conversations with the FAA and the wording of the COA and the 333. Have you filed a COA beyond the blanket COA? If so could you describe how long it took and if you were successful? Everyone I…"

"Thanks for the help. So my universal COA has an altitude restriction of 200 ft. If I wanted to extend that to 400 in class E would I just need to call in a NOTAM similar to what I have to do under normal circumstances with my current COA or do I…"

"Currently I have only flown under the universal COA. Could you explain a little bit about how you are doing individual COA's? I thought it required going through the long and drawn out process described on the FAA's website here:…"

"The biggest problem that I have heard people run  into is purchasing a system from overseas. If the company  you purchased from was sold to you from a company outside of the US, you need to get information from that countries civil aviation…"

"Perhaps there is a need for a wiki on how to register an N numbered drone? I'm sure not only would it be beneficial to the community but it would probably make the folks in Oklahoma City happy as well when they receive the paperwork."

"We recently registered a Solo (N993DR) We did not have to get a letter from 3DR. We used the older method of using a 8050-88 and the 8050-1 with a receipt from Best Buy to show it was purchased in the US. It took less than 30 days to get our…"

I agree in regards to a creative commons version of the operators and training manuals used in the 333. This is the one part of the 333 process that typically isn't made public. Although you can use similar language used in granted…"
