Darrell Burkey commented on Echo G's blog post EDIT: Get assembled smart batteries on Kickstarter Campaign
"Great idea. I hope this goes well. Battery management is a real issue when you have multiple airframes."

Darrell Burkey replied to vyoufinder's discussion Recommend a Gimbal for Flying Sony a7s & A7sii on s1000?
"I'd say the Greasy T3 would be your best bet. I've never seen anything but positive comments about their gimbals."

Darrell Burkey commented on Kriszhao's blog post Is It Expensive to Build A Industrial Level Composite Material VTOL UAVs For Aerial Mapping?
"Very nice! I've been considering using folding props on my DIY Skywalker quadplane. I'm a bit worried that they won't unfold properly with forward wind and have heard concerns from others. But it would be so convenient not to have to remove the…"

Darrell Burkey replied to Patrick Duffy's discussion Arduplane 3.9 flyaway with bad compass
"Sorry that this happened. I know what a sick feeling it is to watch all your hard work go totally out of control. If you were flying with a ground station then there will be TLogs available that might help in finding out what went wrong and where it…"

Darrell Burkey replied to ZABBIE's discussion Sudden Potential drop when taking off
"25C is a bit low for a draw of 46amps regardless of what the maths would indicate. The battery would be getting quite hot and the internal resistance would increase greatly. On a copter that size I'd be using something more in the 60C range. I've…"

Darrell Burkey commented on Patrick Meier's blog post Affordable cargo drone now available after testing in 3 countries
"@Thomas Butler - Standard GPS is only accurate to about 5 meters. Machine vision with a target as done here is definitely a good solution. "

Darrell Burkey replied to Alf Stockton's discussion Fixed wing flight controller advice
"Don't let the silly marketing numbering on the Pixhawk fool you. The most up to date version is actually the Cube. Great flight controller with a lot of improvements. http://ardupilot.org/rover/docs/common-thecube-overview.html"

Darrell Burkey replied to Fran's discussion Newbie Questions. Parrot Disco for agricultural and forest survey/mapping any updated infos?
"The only issue with separate flights for NDVI and RGB is the time involved. The size area you are considering will take some time to cover so doing it twice would be quite a task.
It's been some time since I've used a GoPro and the newer models are…"

Darrell Burkey replied to Fran's discussion Newbie Questions. Parrot Disco for agricultural and forest survey/mapping any updated infos?
"A GoPro is a poor choice for RGB mapping. It's just not what they were designed for. The camera of choice for mapping is/was a Sony A6300. They are light, cost effective and simple to interface to a Pixhawk. You don't need to worry about roll angles…"

Darrell Burkey replied to Fran's discussion Newbie Questions. Parrot Disco for agricultural and forest survey/mapping any updated infos?
"Ag mapping is a fairly advanced use case for a drone. It doesn't sound to me like a DIY solution is what you need. You will be spending a lot of time and money figuring it all out. You might be better off with a total commercial solution such as the…"

Darrell Burkey replied to Darrel Maddy's discussion How to slow a flying wing
"I'm using the same setup you and Antonie are. The camera manages to shoot at 1 per second. I have to agree with Antonie that your hold up is the camera for some reason."

Darrell Burkey replied to Marthinus's discussion Advise and help needed. Quadplane accident.
"I've built a couple of quadplanes now and the issue of current draw during transition to forward flight seems to be an issue that requires careful planning. In one of my builds I went as far as separating the vertical lift motors off to their own…"

Darrell Burkey replied to Aras Balali Moghaddam's discussion GPS tagging for cameras with trigger but no GPS input
"If they are using DJI then a DJI XT camera would have suited their purposes better as it integrates with the flight controller to record the info they are looking for. If for some reason they don't want to use the DJI XT then the Flir Vue Pro Duo…"
