Toby Mills commented on Chris Anderson's blog post The economics of drone delivery
"I think drone delivery won't be fully viable until battery technology undergoes a revolution.

Also, I think drone delivery is going to play out a lot different to what people think. At the moment everyone is focused on delivery from a warehouse to…"

Toby Mills commented on Chris Anderson's blog post 3DR's evolution from micro to mass
"Actually. Thinking about this more. What would really help is if you could buy a hobby version of every future 3dr product. I think that would go a long way to appeasing the original support base.

For example if I could buy a box of parts to build…"

Toby Mills commented on Chris Anderson's blog post 3DR's evolution from micro to mass
"3dr faces a real challenge with this transition from a DIY hoobyist focus to a consumer RTF focus.

How do you make that shift while keeping the people that helped get you there engaged and supportive?

It's very easy to get it wrong and for all the…"

Toby Mills commented on Gary Mortimer's blog post U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx Announces Unmanned Aircraft Registration Requirement
"My issue with registration is that it is focussed on post incident blame. If they spent the same amount of money on setting good rules and then a massive education program then you would not need to worry about post incident blame because there would…"

Toby Mills commented on Randy's blog post Copter-3.3 released!
"I put 3.3 on my X8.It flew fine but I notice it is hunting around a bit more than what it previously was on 3.2 in a hover.Could this be improved by trying to tune the EKY tuning settings?"

Toby Mills commented on Daniel Iglesias's blog post The FAA has missed an important deadline and it predicts 1 million drones to be sold this Holiday Season
"This is where the new rules in New Zealand are fantastic. The CAA there has regulated based on risk not use. A commercial operator and a hobbyist can fly under the same rules. However, if either the commercial operator or the hobbyist wants to fly…"

Toby Mills replied to Craig P.'s discussion Simple Solution For Extending The Range of The Solo in 3DR SOLO
"it depends what you want to do with it.If its just for personal use, a directional antenna may be fine as a good low cost option. If you are hoping for a more professional platform, I would upgrade the internal WiFi cards to more powerful 800mW…"

Toby Mills replied to RichWest's discussion What is Solo? in 3DR SOLO
"In short, as with a lot of things open source, its whatever you want it to be, and if enough people also agree with you then that is what it becomes.

A lot of things get built in the open source world, many die but many become popular enough to…"

Toby Mills commented on Daniel Iglesias's blog post 3DR launches teaser for short film series "Life After Gravity"
"Thanks Daniel, job well done. Its nice to see some real footage being shot with the Solo instead of the absolutely rubbish raw videos that people have been posting. It would be great for 3DR to collect together user submissions on videos and have a…"

Toby Mills commented on Daniel Iglesias's blog post 3DR launches teaser for short film series "Life After Gravity"
"outstanding flying and outstanding editing.
The problem comes when people see this and then buy a Solo thinking they can make magic like this. They don't seem to realise it takes years and years of practice flying to be able to do this and then the…"
