11.1 or 14.8v ?

I am looking for a battery... watching on forums, hobbyking and using Ecalc...
Some one say 11.1 v battery are better than 14.8 v ...I prefer 14.8 v
My goal would be to transport my camera (300 g ) with a reasonable flight time 10-15 min using 80% rule.

Here is my config:
Frame : Homemade x config. 550mm
Flight controller :MultiWii PRO MTK GPS Module
ESCs : 4x Afro ESC 30Amp
Motors : 4x Sunnysky V2216-13 650KV 20A 320W
Battery : from 4500 to 6000 Mah 3s or 4s

I made some calc but i dont'understand some things..
look the images below...

Sorry i mean Watts/Hour

I choose 2 battery with the same Power ( that should be the important thing ) and the 4s has less flying time than the 3s ...but can load more weight...WHY?
Can anyone tell me what are the difference and what battery should be good for mi quadcopter?
Thanks a lot.

  • hover time is approximately the same which makes sense. max power will be higher with the higher voltage given that both setups have the same motor. More volts equals more current, but with that more performance.

if you selected a similar motor but with a lower kv (same ratio as 11.1/14.8) , the results would probably more similar.

the ecalc 3s looks under powered, hover throttle too high for my liking. Also don't use that payload part of ecalc, add you weight to the total so that the flight times, currents powers etc are for you actual weight, that payload part is some sort of estimate that ecalc thinks the copter would still fly safely, but you still don't know what run time you get...if that makes sense.

Battery selection needs to be considered at the same time as choosing all the other components. You could run a higher kv motor or running bigger props (if the motors will swing them) on 3s and get good performance too. Its a big trade off/juggling act, If you want to use 4s, specify a system that performs the way you want on 4s, choosing prop size motor kv/power etc.
