APM 2.5 board becomes hot when plugging in the receiver

Hey Guys,

I wanted to put the electronic of my homemade y6-copter together, but after I connected the receiver (Graupner GR-16) the APM 2.5 Board powered by usb becomes hot, in the region beside the GPS-port. The JP1 Jumper was off. I attached some pictures for better understanding,

I would be very glad If somebody could help me :) I can't find a mistake any more after spending the whole day on it.

Simon

  • Hello all,

    Now the situtation becomes very strange, the problem with the GR-16 receiver is still there and is not caused by a defect of  the receiver (Meanwhile I have too of them and both don't work with APM 2.5, but they work with the electronic of my old plane).

    The courious thing is that my old receiver (35Mhz) of the plane is working with the APM 2.5 Board without any Problems.

    For better understanding:

    receiver GR-16 + APM = does not work

    old receiver + APM = does work

    receiver GR-16 + old electronic = does work

    old receiver + old electronic = does work

    Does anybody have an idea how to solve the Problem?

    Regards Simon

    @Simon,

    The area of the board that you are pointing to is near where the data flash and some other chips are located.

    Did you buy your APM2.5 from 3DR as your GPS/Compass module has the 3DR logo on it?

    There does not appear to be voltage regulator in that area you have outlined which could get hot due to a shorted power and ground on the receiver input.

    It almost sounds like your receiver is shorting the receiver input power buss causing a component on the APM board, in the area that you have identified, to be drawing excessive current.
