I just recently purchased apm 2.5 plus from 3DR.
I have flashed 2.9.1b arducopter software from mission planner in to the board and its connected via usb cable.
I can see lots of altitude drifting up and down (+- 0.50meters).
Also I cannot see any real time data except altitude, vertical speed etc.
Mission planner software used(1.2.48 & 1.2.5).
Is this normal behavior or do I have some settings wrong?
I fear that I have received defected unit.
Please help if you know something about this.

Looks to me like there is nothing wrong. 0.5 meters deviation in altitude is very, very little. Consider that a pressure change of 25HPa (see your local weather service) will set you off by about 300m, that is nothing.
The IMU/sensors seem to work will too (looking at the horizon moving). You probably got no accel data because the APM was not told to send that. Somewhere in Settings->Mission Planner you can set which data is getting subscribed from the APM and at how high a rate.
