I am interested in purchasing a ready-to-fly ArduCopter, but I'm confused about the various options for command and control. I read that R/C gear is required for manual flight and that options include wireless command of the autopilot electronics. I understand that the wireless option facilitates pre-flight programming of the autopilot, but what in-flight commands can be transmitted? Regarding the R/C gear, I assume that the usual throttle, pitch, roll and yaw are inflight controls issued from the transmitter, but what other controls are available? I think it would be nice to use the switches on the R/C transmitter to send loiter and return-to-home commands, but I'm guessing that is what you would need the wireless option for.
Your thoughtful and detailed replies are appreciated.

You can do almost everything from the ground station, even fly it. But for safety's sake, you must use an RC radio to control it. If you use a seven or eight channel radio, you can control all sorts of modes and features remotely.
