Arduino-based OSD

I'm new to the UAV world and don't yet have a drone of my own, but recently a member of the DIYDrones community blogged about one of my products here: http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/osd-object-tracking-and.  I was also contacted by quite a few FPV enthusiasts about the possibilities.  I hadn't thought of using my Video Experimenter Arduino shield as a drone OSD solution, but was intrigued by the idea, so I experimented with overlaying GPS data onto a camera image to produce an Arduino-based OSD implementation.

In the process, I learned a lot more about the UAV world, and I blogged all the details about this on my site, including the source code, wiring, etc.  I'm not claiming this is an out-of-the-box solution, but it seems possible to perform the data overlay at a ground station or aboard the aircraft itself.  I'm interested in any feedback you might have.

Matthias and rest, we are already working on diy osd and its rather far on its development path. Checout arducam-osd from googlecod repositories.

All basic functionalities are there already and now we are implementing mavlonk to it. There are few other projects going on too to create nice small osds.

Use the example for Arduino based vision to identify an IR beacon for precision landing/recharging on copters. Lots of possibilities here.
  • so you would just need this small chip, a few resistors, capacitors and an atmega? that's great!

looking forward to see this as a good solution for diydrones OSD

  • Wish: convert to this to diyydrones osd ! 8)
