Disable disarm button on joystick while flying

I'm rebuilding an old quadcopter that never took off about 7 years ago. It's an old X525 frame. With the guidance of the director of the UAS program at a local college, I've replaced the flight controller with an HKPilot32, added GPS, SiK telemetry, a GoPro and a RunCam Owl mounted on a gimbal printed on my 3D printer. I also printed longer legs/landing gear to make room for the gimbal hanging underneath the frame and another level for the center section to make room for the additional electrical equipment.

Last night, I was configuring a Thrustmaster joystick in Mission Planner and in the process realized I can hit the disarm switch at any throttle level and the drone would immediately disarm. Is there a way to set a failsafe for the joystick like with the radio? I would hate to be 100 ft up, bump the switch accidentally and have it fall and hurt somebody.

  • "An obsessive-compulsive desire for equilibrium" I appreciate the philosophical approach, its an overlooked aspect of the industry. Plato would have approved.

  • Just an obsessive-compulsive desire for equilibrium, I guess. If it has an arm button, it should have a disarm button. You make a good point though.

Out of curiosity, why use a disarm switch at all? It is because you're using a joystick that doesn't have a left throttle/rudder stick, for the usual down-and-right disarm move?
