If someone else does it - how do you select them? Would you upload/send them a data sample rightaway to see how well the data can be cleaned? Or would you want to see a case study/demo first before sharing your data?

If you do it yourself - why do you prefer that?

Thanks for your answers!

  • I do it myself, either through AutoDesk ReCap 360 or Pix4D (full version) depending on the size & accuracy of the project.  My husband owns a civil engineering company that already had AutoDesk.

I think it all depends on what you're using it for?  Most of them have a 30 day trial, just send some companies a set of geotagged photos and see which one works the best for your needs.  Try Drone Deploy too.

One thing I've noticed people don't seem to realize is that if you're using this for mapping, you need a P.E. to sign off on it (in CA @ least).  It's like when I researched what drone to buy & DJI was telling me you didn't really need a pilot's license or that a drone wouldn't take down a plane.  It's not as easy as just getting the right software.

One route you could go is Pix4D's mapper software that's around $250 a year subscription.  It's got limiting file formats, it's worth checking out depending on what you're using it for.  I ended up applying that to the full version.
