Fire Shadow

Hello everyone!

I am currently an undergraduate at the University of Liverpool and am about to start a project on the guidance and control of UAV's using matlab.

My professor has asked me to model my UAV on the specifications of MBDA's Fire Shadow. The avionics etc. is not that important at the moment- just the measurements of the frame. The tiny problem is that its all classified information!

All I have found so far is that its less than 4m long...not much to go on. I was wondering if anyone could give me their opinions on the measurements or any indication of where to look.

Thank-you in advance!

  • I would suggest you to ask your professor to consider another plane and explain the difficulties.

    It's not possible to accurately model the dynamics of the airplane if you don't at least know the following:

    * airfoils,

    * wing loading,

    * control surface position and size,

    * mass distribution,

    * tail volume coefficients,* cruise lift coefficient,

    * ...

    The point is that you need to know a lot about the airplane to accurately mode it's behavior. There's no point in trying to model an airplane you know very little about because the model you'll get by guesswork will behave nothing like the real thing.

  • Your tutor isn't making this easy for you!

    This sounds very much like the work I do reverse engineering aircraft for flight sims.

    I take it that you have MBDAs datasheet for the fire shadow?

    Cheers,

    Phill
