I need to know about confirmed operation....

In other words.... When I switch flight modes, How do I Know if it actually does????

My Taranis is telling my it's changing but I would like some kind of feed back from the model that the mode I select is armed....

Is this possible?

Oh man... Thanks for a great response guys....

Sorry, I've been away from my computer....

Ok...

Maybe I should be more transparent on my set-up....

So, I am flying a 800 size Hexacopter fitted with a X8R receiver and Pixhawk running on version 1.3.34... (I think???)

I also have 3DR telemetry radio and MAVlink...

I do get telemetry working (volts, current, position and so on) but when I switch modes, I just get the radio telling me what switch position I am in.... not what the copter is set to....

Hi David

If you are flying with Pixhawk and Taranis plus this is a great Telemetry addition, It uses Mavlink data and displays and announces flight modes, bat volts etc.

Cost effective too.

Hi David

Get ride of your current radio and purchase a Taranis Plus.

The way to go.

Or the Tarnis X9E if you want a tray style.  I have one and its awesome...

I can vouch for that product.  I've been using one for several months now and it works like a charm.

He's already got a Taranis, a Plus only adds haptic which is not much help to him in respect to the question he asks.

There is some more info on the ardupilot.org site here http://ardupilot.org/copter/docs/common-frsky-telemetry.html

and help from developers here http://discuss.ardupilot.org

Hi Mike

Follow this link. It adds all the Telemetry functionality he needs.

That option, along with the original open source version and the functionally superior Android based solutions - all referenced earlier in the thread - will work with his Taranis. Why do you tell him to get rid of it and "purchase a Taranis Plus"?

I can understand that for your application.

For professional use, we trying to reduce the number of devices, to make the operation more planned and predictable. Less devices, less batteries to charge, less cable and connectors, that can be tangled and broken during the operation.

For the pilot is most important to have prompt feedback for the mode, battery, RSSI and height.

Taranis can provide that immediately using the MavLink.

For example last week we had to film in difficult terrain between wires, trees downhill. In that situation you must know the quality of the control signal, as it changes every second. Taranis telemetry link has less power and coverage than the control link. When listen to that, you can hear " telemetry lost", but you still have control. So you have enough time to ascend or move side, and restore the proper communication.

Using Mavlink, you have more confident operation, knowing and feeling very well the current situation.

The telemetry radio is very good for setup and second, redundancy link - standby tablet or phone. In some complicated situations I have laptop with joystick, capable to regain control if main control fails.

Sorry guys... I have been so busy with work and the family!

Yes, I have a Taranis Plus and I've fitted a 6 position rotary switch for my Flight Modes....

When I switch, I get an audible message saying Possition Hold and so on but.....

I would like the Air side radio to feed back and tell me it has been enabled "Possition Hold Enabled"????

Hi David

Yes its possible but the reported message maybe different to what you suggested. If you install the "Craft and Theory" software and cable interface not only will you have this reported messages on the Taranis screen but also with an announced message. Additionally you could record your own message to announce what ever you want. The main thing is that these mode change commands come directly from the Pixhawk MAV-link buss. You also gain GPS status, altitude, speed, battery voltage and current etc etc.

See the attached link for full details.
