Iris+ calibration issues out of the box

Hey,
Brand new to flying quads (or any RC pretty much)...just got my new Iris+ and having serious issues...haven't been able to get it up and flying yet:
It seems there is a problem with either the accelerometer calibration or the motor speeds. When I try lifting off, one side of the quad gets much more lift than the other and it only lifts on that one side. If I give a little too much throttle it flips the unit and drives it into the ground (without actually lifting off the ground).
After that happened once, I turned it off and back on then tried again and it DID lift off about 3 feet...then shoot horizontally about 30 feet, flip over and crash again (damaging two props).
After replacing the props (and ensuring they were installed correctly) and reading on the support pages, I reset the accelerometer but am having the same issue with more power on one side than the other.
I've also tried recalibrating the ESC, tested again with the same result.
I've now tried recalibrating the controller (but haven't had a chance to test it yet...)
IN ADDITION: The camera gimbal basically twitches around without holding it level...I'm not sure if that is all caused by the same issue somewhere.
Is there something I'm missing? An issue with the unit? All advertising says it is ready to fly right out of the box and that certainly has not been the experience...any help would be appreciated!

  • Hey Ray,

I have this problem from time to time. I'm brand new to this too, so my terminology is probably incorrect but here we go. One thing I did was adjust the controller slightly to the side that is getting too much lift. Right below both joysticks are two toggle switches. When you click them either way, you can see a circle move on your main display on the controller. I moved both circles over far enough so the outside of the circles is barely touching the central dot. Again, I did this on my own and I'm not 100% sure it's the correct thing to do, but my Iris seems to perform perfectly like this.

    Hope it helps!

    • Hi

Thanks for the reply. I had tried the trim control as you've suggested without a lot of success.

Working with the help desk at 3DR, we were (finally) able to determine that there was calibration issues with the controller. After we got that fixed, it wouldn't pair with the drone any more, so we had to fix that...then after one successful flight the ESC went completely out of calibration.

I THINK I have it all set now...just hoping it stays that way this time so I can actually enjoy it!

      Thanks again

      Ray

      • Well ??? I just joined this forum, so maybe I have something set wrong. But all these unanswered problems? It's February 13th Surely you've got it flying by now..... right?..... I hope....
