Large Pay Load - Camera System

I'm looking for a UAV that is moderately easy to fly while carrying a fairly substantial payload.  Medium Format Still Camera (approx. 20 lbs).  Hasselblad system.

Any ideas where to start?

Why would you need a telephoto lens for aerial shooting? Any vibration will be exacerbated as you zoom in.. You might not notice at 18mm.. but at 200mm.. your going to see it.

Are you sure what you want? You mentioned a gas powered platform. Are you looking for a helicopter or multicopter? I honestly don't know what you would use besides some of the pro camcorders that would lead you to believe it was 20lb? A hassy body is under 4lb.. add about a pound'ish lens.. thats 5-6lb...

  • Hey, we are busy developing custom h3avy lift multikoters for the roduction and film 8ndustry,we currently fly our octo and it will lift 3 or 4 kg easy with plans for much bigger ones, pop us an email info@motionpixel . Co . Za
  • Have you considered a blimp? it will give you much longer loiter times than anything else, but your action radius is not as wide.

Then again, where there is a will, there is a way. Something like this, if my estimates are right, will not only carry your 20lb camera, and its own 35 lb weight, it should handle moderately well.

You will want to spend a few hundred hours with flight simulators, and then maybe buy three, and fly them with increasing weights for a few hundred more, before you put a camera like that into one of them. If you crash something like this, I don't think there is padding enough in the world to give your camera any hope of surviving....

Oh, and maybe you'll want to talk to these guys. They are the most recently group of people with equipment in your general class who are trusting their unmanned generally-airborne devices to lift for brief periods of time ;)

I cannot really help, but I am curious... are you looking for a UAV to carry a nine kilogram, twenty or thirty thousand dollar camera? I am new in the field of aerial photography, but what is the application of using a 40MP camera in a UAV flying under 400 feet? Are you interested in identifying insects or small birds? :)

ok, curiosity abated (for now.) Perhaps I can help, if only to elicit more details that others might need to answer your question... Are you seeking a VTOL platform like a multicopter, a crane-replacement, or are you looking for a fixed wing platform for overflight imagery?
