I am working on my first quadcopter. I'm using a newly purchased Pixhawk on a DJI Flamewheel 450.

I followed a tutorial on setting up via qgroundcontrol, and loaded the "Standard Version (Stable)" firmware. I used the PX4 setup options when qgroundcontrol starts up.

I'm using a Spectrum DX18 radio, with 1 satellite plugged in via the spectrum port on the Pixhawk.

Everything appears to be working correctly, except while flying the motors shut off after exactly 1 minute. Luckily i was keeping the copter at only about 2 feet off the ground, it dropped straight down, no damage.

After that I did some additional bench testing without the props on. Same result. Once it happens there is a constant beeping, and I haven't been able to find anyway to rearm the system without  unplugging the battery and starting over.

Same result each time.

For the minute that it was flying it was behaving correctly. I flew it back and forth without any issue until the motors stopped.

I haven't been able to find any resolution issue to this issue via searching.

any ideas? Thanks.

  • After more tests, it is no longer exactly a minute. I've had the motors last about 4 minutes now as well.

I've tried the beta version of the PX4 firmware as well from qgroundcontrol.

I tried loading the APM firmware with mission planner on a windows computer. The firmware loads fine, but it never connects via mavlink to finish the setup (calibrations, radio, etc ...)
