Need to use Pixhawk 2.1 Barometer for drone altitude

Hi,

I am new to pixhawk. I am using pixhawk cube 2.1. I need to use pixhawk's own barometer to calculate the altitude. Please guide me that how to get readings of the barometer or the baro altitude. I am using PX4 firmware version 1.6.3. In the mavlink inspector (Qground controller), i have not seen any altitude thread. Do i need to use different firmware to get the pixhawk's built-in barometer working for the altitude or do i need to enable some parameter ?

Thanks!

  • Chimney? :) What kind of chimney..Now I am more confused.

I don't know QGC. Why you simply don't use Mission Planner? It reads and provides barometer reading on its own. You don't need to do anything.

Yes i am trying to read barometer reading directly from pixhawk by mavlink inspector in QGC. is there any parameters to set to get the correct altitude with the barometer. Right now i am getting -77m Altitude (amsl). It almost seems to stay at this value. Our plan is to use the Pixhawk's barometer for the altitude estimation to fly the drone in the chimney. I don't have chimney access so i am testing the pixhawk's barometer in the indoor.

If I make a wild guess, you want to read the barometer reading directly off the PixHawk?

You need to explain your question in details else people normally don't respond to vague questions.

    1. What is your setup?

    2. You need to provide more details.

I am not very familiar with QGC, but in mission planner, it should read fine. Keep in mind there are many factors that can impact a barometer

  • Do i need to set some parameter to read the barometer altitude? I am getting Pressure_alt around -79 in QGC mavlink inspector. I don't understand what is this. Please let me know what is required to read the correct reading of the barometer from pixhawk.

If you are using telemetry on Pixhawk or transmitting telemetry via video, it will tell you the altitude using ground control software like Mission planner or others.
