Needing help in Denver

Been working on my quadcopter reading all the different threads as to 'my quad does not take off' or 'my quad tips over on take off'. Tried all the different solutions and still running into trouble on take off. So, I was wondering if there is anyone with a quad in the Denver CO area that would be willing to help a noob out.

Thanks in advance,

Roy

  • Hi.  I'm in Englewood and I've been flying for awhile, although not all that much as of late.  I'll probably be doing a bit more now that the weather's gotten nice though.

A couple of things to check:

    1. Make sure all your props face the right direction.  You should be able to do this during motor testing, or by just arming it and using a small amount of throttle.  I had a pusher in one of the puller positions on my first build.

    2. Make sure all the arms are the same distance from each other.  I've also had an arm being 5 degrees out of alignment screw stuff up.  Also double check that all your motors are level and aren't askew.

    3. If the quad tries to launch itself upside down, or immediately starts to slide in one direction if you're on a smooth surface, it's possible the leveling routine decided a tilt is 'level'.  Try to do the re-leveling (disarm) trick from here:

Make sure you're level when you do it.

Make sure you have a LOT of extra props.  Chances are you're going to lose a lot getting to learn to fly.  The black plastic ones break really easily.  The grey 10x4.7 props are a lot tougher, and provide a bit more lift.

Also, would you mind posting a picture of video of your quad?  It makes diagnosis a little easier.  :)
