This is a discussion to focus the feedback and support of ardupilot on the PixRacer board from AUAV.co.
We believe that all teething problems encountered are now resolved and so we recommend people load Copter-3.3.4 which is available for all multicopters through the Mission Planner's (and other GCS's) Install Firmware screens. Note that because regular Pixhawks are still on Copter-3.3.3 the install icon may show Copter-3.3.3 but rest assured, Copter-3.3.4 will be installed (you can check the version by looking at the very top of the Mission Planner).
Are there any good GPS units which you can recommend for Pixracer?
@Ehsan: The main challenge concerning GPS/GNSS systems mounts on a racer is mostly not the GNSS itself, as long as no real cheapo, but the close distance to EMI impacts onto MAG and GNSS (motor field/power wires) and RF impacts (Camera,FPV Tx,Telemetry Tx, and, often reported, some Rx) .
Nevertheless, any recommendation for APM / Pixhawk will do for the Pixracer as well, no specific needs. For Groundplane and antenna size, a simple rule applies..The bigger,the better.
If you really like to use GPS modes, use a little Mast to get the GPS/Mag away from impact sources, play with copper foil for shielding and vary the antenna positions.
Great little GNSS are available at CSG like this one: http://www.csgshop.com/product.php?id_product=180 or this one (needs a MAG BOB as well) http://www.csgshop.com/product.php?id_product=171 or this one for bigger copters http://www.csgshop.com/product.php?id_product=180 . I used DroTek XL as well with above average results. http://www.drotek.com/shop/en/home/613-ublox-neo-m8n-gps-hmc5983-co... but the version with came with big 6mm taoglas patch.The recent one offers a EMI shield but a 3mm antenna and lacks former LNA / SAW design.
For my cheap Pixracer Robocat build, described here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=33812382&postcoun... , I used a HK GNSS, http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__86436__UBLOX_Micro_M8N_G... which obviously suffers from a smaller Groundplane and the close distance to all those forementioned impacts. So I have to re-do some part of the assembly , some shielding or install a mast. But well, for an RTH insurance its good enough as it is.

I am planning to use Pixhawk on a plane so distance is not an issue and I can put it far away from other components. Considering this, which of GPS units has high quality so I do not worry about high failure rate?
Me and others had very good experiences with the CSG units. But on a plane (w/o high impact risk) the HobbyKing will do as well. Keep the I²C wires (MAG) below 20cm .

Hey will Mav Pilot be able to direct connect with the pixracer being as it has it's own on board wifi? That would be slick! And come to think about it... wouldn't I be able to use APM Planner on my MacBook Air connected via wifi as well? It would not have the range of mavlink of course but still a nice option if it fact would work.
Is there a cage for the pixracer to protect?
I see only one I2C port on the Pixracer, and I am concerned because my plan is to use ArduPlane w/ the I2C digital airspeed sensor on a small plane (1m/39inches wingspan).
Can I disconnect the external magnetometer and put instead the digital airspeed ? My airplane is nitro, so I guess the internal magnetometer should be good enough. But, will ArduPlane be docile with that trick ?
May be I can use an I2C splitter ? But would that work ?

Hi, no need to cross post on different forums.. I think most people involved are impatiently watching all of the several threads on a few different forums about the pixracer topic :). (at least I am, so I'll answer :D)
Yep, i2c splitter.. no problem.
you'll have to make/edit one of the cables, but that's easy enough.
