Problems with Automatic Takeoff

I have a GAUI 500X quad with the APM2 and sonar on board and I'm having problems with the auto takeoff.

It does waypoints, RTL, and landings quite well. The only problem I have is the takeoff. I arm the motors and push the throttle on my RC controller the whole way up (in Auto mode) and the quad sits on the ground for a minute spinning its motors before it starts to takeoff. I have the takeoff altitude set to 5 meters and the quad does reach that height, but it takes forever.

Is this normal?

    I'm having the same problem with my quad. The takeoff can take up to a minute, all the time wasting battery power. I did find that the takeoff is faster the closer to level the quad is.

    Other than having the quad take off from a level platform, does anyone have an idea of how to make the quads auto take off faster?
