Senior Project Autonomous Boat Design

Hello everybody,

This is my first blog post on this site.  I am a Electrical Mechanical Engineering Technology student from Penn State Altoona Campus.  I am working on a senior design project that involves building an autonomous boat.

Objective: To design a scaled down version of an actual boat that will be capable of autonomously traveling around a pre-set course, and produce a sonar scan of sea floor.

The beginning

I am looking to use a Bay Boat design, like the Redwing 26 as my model to scale down and build.  The boat will either be running in the indoor pool on campus or the man made pond located on campus also.

So far I want to use a Ardupilot 1.0 as the controller with the GPS module EM406.  I have added a wring diagram of the motor as an attachment.  Still need a receiver to use.  This is all still early in the design process so I am just doing lots of research now to figure things out.  Any help from others that have worked on similar projects or comments are welcome.  I will be updating my progress regularly.

Thanks
