I'm creating this thread to share your drone/copter information. I believe, this would help immensely for newbies like me during the initial build. For example, the Chris's blog on cheap Hobby King quad configuration is really a good resource.  

I don't want to burden anyone who is willing to share their info. Hence all fields are optional. Atleast the first 5 fields are ideal. Please find the list of fields to copy/paste at the end, so you can start filling :-).

Could you explain a bit about the APM mount? As I see, you've handled vibration issues..

What is the flying time of this? and payload?



Yes, they were the 8040 from HK, but I broken on blade on my very first flight, so I had to switch over to the 9x5 which is almost equivalent, but not as cool looking.  I haven't weighed it, since  I don't have a scale that can weight over 1.0kg.  But, estimation from the individual components, is about 1.2 kg, without the battery.

Add the weight of the battery, which is 230g.  I'd say the flying weight is about 1.5kg or so. I can fly about 10 minutes, before I start noticing any drop in power.

The motors are really too large for this little frame, which I originally plan to be a mini, as you can see from my blog.  I'm waiting for some replacement motors before I can put my 3D printed arms on it and fly in mini configuration.  But, I was chomping at the bit, waiting, and wanted to get flying.  With these motors and props, there's a lot of lift and thrust, so I actually had to dial down the STAB P values to keep it more tame.  In this configuration, it would be a great outdoor flyer, but it's winter here in Canada, so I'm just flying indoors.

Using a custom home built frame, I'm trying to build one for indoor use, unfortunately I'm having 4S LiPos (309g), so I won't be able to use these motors. May be this will do. 

Would your original configuration (Mark One, with 2S battery etc..) could carry a payload say 200g? Could that also give you 10min? 

I also need an indoor mini quad, need to carry 200g payload, have atleast 20min flight time :) am I expecting too much? :D playing with eCalc now..!



Hey Ruwan, I don't think that motor can handle 4S, KV is even higher than the 28-22 that I'm using.  It'll surely burn up.

Unfortunately, with a 4S, you're really limited to lower KV higher torque motors, and larger props.  Have a look at this DT850.

For my mini quad, I'm using the 2200kv micros, and I found a great deal on ebay for 6x3 3 blade props on ebay, and they have both counter and clockwise rotating:

The 3 blades are less efficient, so I'd expect less flight time, and I have a set of 7" 2 blades to compare with.  The space saving is better for my mini frame, and I just think the 3 blades are so much cooler.  I also have a small 3s battery coming with the motors, so I can drive those 2200kv motors a little faster than the 2s.  This will generate more power with smaller blades, in case the 6" blades don't give enough lift.

I find that the ecalc will give you some estimates, but really need to have it built to really know what the flight time is going to be.  If the 2s batteries are able to drive the motors and props fast enough to provide lift, I think I should get the 10 mins of flight out of it.

yes Vibration has been handled by fixing the APM to 1.0mm CF plates with giro tape and 3 nylon screws, then mounted to the Copter via 4 canopy washers on nylon standoffs.

I was very happy to get this frame at $42, and now that they are blowing them out at $29 (free shipping)!!! I have to say this is the best buy in the business.  They are very strong with properly designed spring loaded legs (this will save more damage than you can imagine).

The only flaw it the motor mount they supply - very flimsy, tends to vibrate a lot. I used 1/8"x3/4" aluminum to make new ones, and now the unit is extremely smooth and vibration free. I have had almost no flight time yet but so far it looks smooth with Stab_D =.06, R/P D =0, R/p P=.1
