Hi everyone,

I'm creating this thread to share your drone/copter information. I believe, this would help immensely for newbies like me during the initial build. For example, the Chris's blog on cheap Hobby King quad configuration is really a good resource.

I don't want to burden anyone who is willing to share their info. Hence all fields are optional. Atleast the first 5 fields are ideal. Please find the list of fields to copy/paste at the end, so you can start filling :-).

Here goes information about my quad.

This is my new Project:

All selfmade

Cheers Fred

hello :) ur project looks really nice both of them.  i totally know what you have been through so far since i've walked the same road :)
i have couple of questions for you i'm interested if you can shed some light on them :)

1- for the first design are you using aluminum square tubes ? 1cm*1cm?

2-for the second project are the tubes plastic or carbon fiber?

3-what are the center plates made from ?
4-how did you manufacture the engine mounts it is really interestng to know that one?

5-the white supports that hold the frame to the booms what are they made of and how did u fabricate them?

6-the LEGS are they lazer cut from solid aluminum ? and why didn't you do them a bit circular rather than streight edges?

keep up the good work mate.

1-yes Aluminium square tube 11,5x11,5 mm

2- no Aluminium tube 20x1 mm

3- Aluminium 230x1,5 mm

4- Mounts are made of POM "Polyoxymethylene POM is a semicrystalline thermoplastic polymer " Same as the boom holders.

Basic material was 50 mm round solid.

Here´s how i made them

The Landing gear is made of 10x10 mm aluminium square tube

that is superb, great work man. too much time in the design and fabrication i see :) great.
i totally liked the way you are working on this design
though i have only 1 comment :)

the landing gear ! how much does it weigh ? and are you thinking of any other possible solutions ?

the design you are working on now i have it in my head, when i finish the one im doing now i will fabricate one just like you, maybe different materials in some places.

keep up the good work

I was thinking about Carbon, but easily breaks and hard to handle(splinters when drilling and so on )

This one is quite stable, you can almost stand on it.

Weight is 300 gr.

simply awesome. About the number 4, what is the shape of the starting material? are you glue to build it?

Starting material is POM round solid 50 mm.

First drill the holes on a lathe, get it square on the mill, cut it to slices, that´s all :)

Here is my custom quad.

frame:  Custom
controller/autopilot: APM2
motors: 850Kv (3DRobotics)
esc: 30A (Hobby King)
propellers: 10x47, APC
battery:  3S 1800 - 5000mAh
flying time: 7 - 15 minutes

radio: Hitec Aurora 9
video/osd: none
other: Sonar, Custom Sonar / Camera Gimbal

Little bit more info on frame please? material, how you cut it, weight..

Hello All,

I'm new to the community and to MultiCopters.  Started with a Blade mQX a couple of months ago, and last week I built the following (still waiting for the rain to stop for her maiden flight [damn the record breaking rain-fall]:

frame: Quadcopter (jDrones)
Controller/Autopilot: APM1
Motors: 880Kv (jDrones)
ESCs: 30A (jDrones)
Propellers: 12x45 (jDrones)
Battery:  S3 2200mAh (Turnigy)
Flying Time: unknown at this time
Radio: Spetrum DX6i and AR6210 receiver
Video/OSD: none
Other: none
Misc (hacks/mods): none

Hi, here is my new light weight quad.

Frame:          Turnigy / Talon Carbon Fiber Quadcopter
Controller:     APM1 Oilpan
Firmware:      2.5.3 / STABD=0.005
Motor:           Turnigy  / C2822-1600
ESC:             Hobby King / 12A
propellers:    GWS / HD-9050X3
Battery:         Zippy / 2200mAh,3S1P,25C
Radio:           Futaba / R617FS
Others:         GPS

Total Weigth: 864g

The frame is1/8 Plywood cut on my CNC.  The booms are aluminum towel bar I picked up at HomeDepot for $3.50.  I do not have the weight of the frame, but the ready to fly weight is about 3Lbs (scale only goes to 35oz).  That includes the camera gimbal which I am currently using as a sonar gimble which probably weighs 6 oz.
