Thunder Tiger Raptor Ardupilot

I am currently reviving a long dormant thunder tiger raptor from out UAV lab.  It is has a flybar and mechanical mixing.

I have been searching the forums to see if ardupilot has any support for a mechanical mixing setup.  The only information I can find is already a few years old.

My question.  Is my setup compatible with the ardupilot?

Thanks!

  • Actually Kris, this should be possible.  There is a setting in the top left of the Heli screen where you'll see the selection for CCPM and H1 swashplate.  Chose H1 swashplate.  This is for mechanical mixing.

This is a rare option and not often used, but I think it still works so check it out and let me know.

    • Rob,

I can see where the option is in the tutorial here http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/traditional-helicopter-configuration/  It appears they are using amp planner 1.0

However, I can not find it anywhere in the APM planner 2.0.  I tried to install APM 1.0 on my system but I can upload the firmware but I can't get the system to connect.

Do you know where I can find this setting on APM planner 2.0?

      • If APM Planner 2.0 has the screen where it just pukes out ALL the parameters on the screen (and it should), then you should see something called H_SWASH_TYPE and that's what you want.  Set it to 1, and now the pitch roll and collective commands should stay separated.

Does Planner 2.0 have a heli setup screen at all?  I haven't had time to get into it.

        • Hi Chris,

What are the batteries (in photo) that you are using in this Tiger Thunder Raptop Heli? It seems that these are lithuim ion batteries. Are they laptop batteries? Where can you buy / get them? I suppose these batteries give your heli longer endurance (i.e. longer flight times).

    Kris,

No, I don't think so.  In the trad heli setup you can set the position of the swash servo which controls the amount of roll and pitch that each controls but the collective pitch cannot be removed.  So all servos will move up (or down).

    • Thank you.  This is the same thing I found in the older posts.  I just wanted to check if anything changed since then.
