Viable Business Model

Ok so I get the need for the exemption certificate - but here is the thing - i want to run an aerial photography service, is there a way to get around this pilot license thing with a viable business model (for example offering to provide the "service of recreational imagery" (i.e. your labor) not the end result (i.e. selling images/video).

If not - then what ?

Do you have to go get a full pilot license ? Is there one now for UAV's that you can get (a license).

  • Hmm then how does a wedding photographer (for example) offer this type of footage ? Do they ignore the rule, and hope they don't get caught ? I guarantee they don't have a pilot on staff - lol
    • Technically they are operating illegally if taking pictures for commercial purposes (w/o a pilot license)
    • They are operating illegally if the don't have a pilot certificate.
  • You just need to wait for FAR Part 107. It is due later this year, but it might take much longer to be implemented. Or you could just get your recreational pilot's license, it's a lot fun!

No there is not at the minute. The term you are grappling for is valuable consideration.
