  • I think you may choose  a stable, reliable and cost-effective aircraft for your son.

  • Dji tello!

  • I assume your son is a school student. I'd recommend something that he could make mistakes on and get hooked enough to motivate him to explore more.

For him to expose to aerial cinematography, a Tello drone is good start.

For purely fun stuff, Parrot Mambo is a good idea.

To get him into tinkering with drones and learning STEM concepts parallely, a Pluto drone or a PlutoX aerial robotics kit can work very well. You can learn and make tonnes of mistakes on it.

  • How old your son? If it is the first time he flies the drone, maybe a cheap toy-drone could be a great to learn.. or else you could try Syma (depend on your budget)

  • If you want to buy selfie drone for your son i recomment best air selfie drone here the world selfie drone check here: http://newzywiki.com/best-air-selfie-drones/

  • If you just want to make a gift for your son and this is going to be his first drone, I'd recommend you to choose DJI Spark. This is the latest selfie drone, released by DJI a month ago. I bought ir for my daughter from www.aeromotus.com and she is more than just happy. It is not expensive (around $500) but has a plethora of flight modes, including even gesture control. She likes making selfies and this is a nice tool for doing this. I am the owner of Phantom 3 but this drone is not for kids. Even I was surprised with the functionality of Spark.

  • p.s. would you agree with this article - http://dronepedia.xyz/top-10-best-camera-drones-for-beginners/. Is Syma better than Hubsan? Which has a better camera?

  • Hey Bill - thank you for the reply.

I was actually thinking about Hubsan X4 - saw it as a good recommendation for beginners on multiple boards and forums.

  • Developer
    http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/introduction/ has some good info

Get a small one like a Hubsan X4 and learn to fly first, then fly a bigger one. It best to learn fly as its much cheaper to crash and repair. If you don't like the idea of crashing, don't take off. ;-)

    Hope that helps :-)
