Hi everyone, I wanted to share a solar-powered boat that I'm working on.  The goal is to make the first ocean crossing of an unmanned, solar-powered boat.

See my website at www.seacharger.com and let me know what you think!

You can't be first to make an ocean crossing, but maybe a global circumnavigation. http://liquidr.com/resdown/resources/case-studies/pacx.html

Looks great.  Please keep us informed of your progress!

Thanks, Grant

Nice! We worked on a similar project a while ago but haven't had a chance to finish. I like how much solar panel you have. That's great.

The Wave Glider is mostly wave powered, so I think this would be the first unmanned solar-only crossing. As far a manned vessels go, this one has circumnavigated the globe: http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2012/05/this-futurist...

Floating Sensor Network Project

like your project and can support it

As NG expert on renewable energy and climate change (UNFCCC) I can get all the necessary data from NOAA and NASA to calculate energy required to defeat the energy of ocean currents for any given geolocation.

That way I can calculate energy balance to make this project success.

In the past I have joined a numer of alike solar energy-based global projects ( Solar Impulse,   Iceberg Project (towing icebergs from the South Pole to Africa to acquire fresh water., powered by the solar panels (PV) system put on top of the iceberg).

So this project is more attracted to physics of fluids, oceanography, study of the ocean currents, study of insolation level, weather reports, jet stream analysis than floating the real boat.

You are free to join my Global Solar Consortium ( tens of renewable energy harvesting r&d projects).

I can offer you world's best solar cells / solar panels ( semi-flexible, highest efficiency).

More data on sea currents I can get tracking the free-floating GPS-enabled probes

(Free Floating GPS Sensors Network )

Since insolation levels for any given geolocation are known to me, I am afraid we should trace Mini-Max route (maximum solar energy received, minimum energy lost).

Ok, it's enough for today.

Hi Rusty,

I've looked at your website before, as well as Blue Robotics.  Great stuff!  Are you still working on SolarSurfer or has life gotten in the way too much?  I assume trying to get the thrusters shipped has been consuming your time.  Anyway, good luck with all.

Damon

Daman,

Building and shipping thrusters is much more important to us, so for the time being it is on hold. I'd love to see someone finish this though so I wish you the best! Let me know if you need anything.

Fantastic project Damon. Congratulations!

I'd like to support your work as well. Would you accept an Erle-Brain?.

Hi Victor,

could you list 29 sensors on board of your excellent Erle-Brain,

by model type, technical specification, data format, clock

What data can be live accessed via WiFi or 3G modem, if installed ?

I plan to build wireless sensor probe,  since number of sensors coming with tablets on board is limited to just few.

I am interested to get live data feed from  gyroscope, accelerometer, uTesla sensor, magnetometer ... GPS (geolocated)

Let me know your opinion and suggestions.

Congratulations on success of your excellent Erle-Brain.

Hi Darius,

Thanks for your words. Tech specs about Erle-Brain are listed on the product page including the sensors. It's a full featured Linux computer thereby you can easily connect WiFi or 3G dongles as desired. Traditional GPS modules are also supported through the 2 UART ports and you can connect many more sensors using the I/O functions available.

Feel free to contact us if you've got any further questions.

Regards,

Description: The MPU-6000 is a serious little piece of motion processing tech! By combining a MEMS 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer on the same silicon die together with an onboard Digital Motion Processor™ (DMP™) from your webpage:

(C&P)

... 3 accelerometers, 3 gyroscopes and 1 temperature sensor

MPU9250: 3 accelerometers , 3 magnetometers, 3 gyroscopes and 1 temperature sensor

LSM9DS0: 3 accelerometers , 3 magnetometers, 3 gyroscopes and 1 temperature sensor

MS5611-01BA: 1 digital pressure sensor (barometer) and 1 temperature sensor

Why did you install 3 x 3-axis accelerometers, 3 x magnetometers and 3 x 3-axis gyroscopes ?

Hi Victor,

Thank you for your offer!  Let us take a little more time to look into it (we've mainly been focusing on the propulsion system lately).  It looks like a great product.
