Pixhawk 2 is a small cube, with a 38.5mm square footprint.

All connection to the cube is via a DF17 connector coming out the bottom of the cube.

This modularity allows for multiple form factors to suit multiple platforms.

For the stand alone market, it will be coming out in two form factors to start with, a "Full" configuration, and a "mini" configuration. The full will have connectors for everything, the kitchen sink.... While the mini is restricted to the bare essentials.

For RTF's or kit aircraft, I am working on a series of plug and fly systems, that allow you to remove most of your wiring from your aircraft, and take advantage of the easy to use modular structure.

The cube also has a massive quality advantage. Given that every single pin is available on the DF17 connection on the base, it allows complete factory full motion testing and calibration of each cube.

Pixhawk 2 is continuing to grow. When we release the Pixhawk 2 stand alone, it will be using the latest sensors available on the market, in a form factor that allows the ultimate in flexibility.

Please note. Pixhawk 2 Stand alone is NOT a 3DR product. It is a community driven product, designed by the community for the community.

A key requirement for my partner companies who will be making this will be active support of the community.

@Philip - have you considered releasing an identical version of the Solo Pixhawk2 as a replacement part? This might be a quick way of getting a foot in the door so to speak and smaller manufacturers could make it in small quantities with less concern about high volume pricing (yes I'm volunteering :). Any update on the status of the housing plastics? Would you like a new design? It might be cheaper anyway - from Tom's pictures I guess less than US$5k for the tooling and a few hundred shots based on the sort of pricing we get out of China.

Very excited to see how we can migrate the FC of our existing DIYDrones quad frames and IRIS+ frames to support the Pixhawk 2, also if there will be recommended quad frames for those entering this hobby. Very cool! :D

Without wanting to interfere, but ideally if there is a redesign for a cheaper housing option, if it's not to much trouble I'd like to see a housing that is less high ie not a cube. But only if it's not an issue to do so. Together with the carrier board this is getting to around 50mm high, which is higher that some Quad frames and even some wings like the Z2. Flat and more area instead is probably less an issue than height IMHO on most DIY builds. eg my current CF 250 quad is only 16mm high... ;-)

BTW Philip do you have any feedback on my previous post regarding the types of carrier boards that will be available with the PX2, as this will ultimately dictate actual space requirements. Thx.

For smaller platforms, you can either use just the FamU without tha additional IMU... Or use the PixRacer by AUAV

The first two carrier boards will be general purpose, but more specialist boards will follow.

The cube shape and size is determined by functional need, so the height is locked. Again, if Pixhawk 2 is too big, then PixRacer may suit you better. Both projects are part of the px4 hardware team.

Thx for the options and info Philip. The OBC project requires independent hardware failsafe (IO) so Pixracer n Co are not options without extra hardware.

One last question: can the PXH2 be attached with screws as well as the DF17?

Me to Felix,you have the best shop for original Pixhawk in EU...
