I flew it yesterday and it's solid state. 25 mph winds off of a roof with power lines everywhere. Not a hitch. I predict over 20 mins of flight on a mapping/GPS mission Very consumer friendly. Zero learning curve for you guys. It's a monster!

Hi all:

Has anyone seen a Teardown video of a 3DR Solo yet?

also curious how to get  regular PWM gimbal working as if it was the OEM one.

I should of stated that the second battery is free.

RE: Free battery. I didn't order with a gimbal but received a 'free' battery anyway from the folks at B&H Photo. I suspect the 'free' battery is a matter of semantics as it won't run without the smart battery. The battery was packaged intimately with the Solo with a neoprene bumper cut to fit the connector end to keep it in place during shipment, I would wager that a Solo doesn't ship without a battery.

Additional batteries have been on back order from 3DR for weeks. Also, only able to order 'black' propellers from 3DR web store as there are no 'silver' prop listed. Or possibly I haven't found them yet.

Downloaded the Solo app and finished ground school.

Controller observations from unboxing.

  • Sticks shipped with knobs screwed in, turned out  and set lock to suit my hands.
  • Noticed the left stick (Mode 2) throttle is spring return to neutral (mid-range) throttle. Solo app flight school confirms auto takeoff to 6-8 foot altitude.

Time to leave the office and go flying.

I found the answer to my own question. It looks like any solo ordered before July 15th (here is Canada anyway) will receive a free battery as delayed gimbal compensation.

I think this is a pretty sweet deal. I can handle a month of rigid mount flying.

Thanks 3DR!

My unboxing slide show video on YouTube, sans commentary, music, and my face. No Solo app so a flight report will have to wait. Batteries charged and ready to fly.

So it's real!

Thanks, Dr. Pete. Looking forward to some videos.
