About Me:

I'm an electrical engineer in the healthcare sector with a focus on embedded system design. My experience in embedded system design makes the RC hobby right up my alley! The more I learn about RC technology, the more I expand my work-related skill sets.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I got into RC trucks in 2010. I recieved a $20 Syma 107 coaxial helicopter for a Christmas gift a year later, and it was all over from there...I was hooked. A couple years, several quads, a plane, FPV gear, and few thousand dollars later, I love this stuff and am constantly learning new things about the hobby/industry.

Dax Hafer replied to Adam Deel's discussion Iris+ Crash Datalog Reivew in IRIS
"Once you get it fixed, fly it in a non-GPS mode first to make sure the IMUs are good before adding in GPS.  It could have been a simple GPS glitch.  So being able to really analyze the logs is not a simple task.  Requires an understanding of the log…"

Dax Hafer replied to Adam Deel's discussion Iris+ Crash Datalog Reivew in IRIS
"Not sure I agree with you Michael.  Check the RC inputs on roll and pitch and then check the roll and pitch outputs.  While it appears that the roll stick is slightly out of calibration, as the trim on the roll stick in the parameters is 1500us but…"

Dax Hafer replied to Doug Adduci's discussion LiPo Battery Performance Questions in ArduCopter User Group
"Here's a good graph that shows what the discharge curve looks like under different loads (15C-35C).  As you can see, it drops quickly, levels out, then drops quickly again.Lipo Discharge Graph.jpg"

Dax Hafer replied to Doug Adduci's discussion LiPo Battery Performance Questions in ArduCopter User Group
"Doug, it's perfectly normal to get a voltage drop of that size, especially at the start of the battery.  If you look at lipo discharge graphs, you will see that there is a very sharp voltage drop at the beginning and end of the cycle, but a much…"

Dax Hafer replied to Greg's discussion Where can I find Iris+ motors? in IRIS
"Greg you should still be able to contact 3DR support I believe and purchase replacements through them.  I think they simply pulled them from the website.  Otherwise, just look up the TigerMotor 6th Anniversary motor and prop set.  Same motors and…"

Dax Hafer replied to Pan Dronek's discussion My IRIS+ rflips on right side upon take off in IRIS
"Wow Jesse, digging up an old thread. The last stable version of 3.2 was 3.2.1; however, the latest stable release of the firmware is 3.3.3 and it's very good. They have made numerous enhancements to make the flight experience more reliable, all the…"

Dax Hafer replied to Harry Courter's discussion pixhawk auxiliary switches in ArduCopter User Group
"I was able to set up all aux channels (7-12) on my Taranis.  I can't remember what I have them all set up to do at the moment, but when I set them up, I tested them all and they all worked as expected.  I don't know the answer to your simple/super…"

Dax Hafer commented on Jerry Giant's blog post P9X autopilot, a revised pixhawk
"Matt...that's funny.
Marc, you can make money using the open hardware model.  Just look at the business that SparkFun has created using the open hardware model.  They are doing pretty well for themselves.  Not to mention, regardless of what 3DR does…"

Dax Hafer commented on Jerry Giant's blog post P9X autopilot, a revised pixhawk
"That's funny.  Jerry did you seriously not know that the guy you've been arguing with and insulting, calling an unproficient hardware design engineer, is the guy that designed the flight controller that is SUCCESSFULLY being used to fly 3DR Solos…"

Dax Hafer commented on Jerry Giant's blog post P9X autopilot, a revised pixhawk
"I stand corrected Thomas, I didn't realize that the PCB files that the PixFalcon supplies is solely a PDF of the gerber files."

Dax Hafer commented on Jerry Giant's blog post P9X autopilot, a revised pixhawk
"Thomas I just checked and all of the HobbyKing APM/Pixhawk variants have the schematics and board files posted on their site.  Just look under the files section on the given product page.  They might not be listed on the product page for an entire…"

Dax Hafer replied to Mario Salomone's discussion How to modify the Iris+ firmware: eclipse errors and more in IRIS
"Hey Mario. This would be a much better question to ask over in the Arducopter group. Most of the developers hang out in that group. Another option would be to go directly to the developers Google group here:…"

Dax Hafer replied to ron s's discussion iris+ suddenly started to fall from 80m high and crashed in IRIS
"Ron check the motors. I've had times where the bolts that hold the motors to the arms start to come loose and the motor can actually wiggle around inside of that cup that hold them.  On mine, the motor was loose enough that the outer bell of the…"

Dax Hafer replied to Dennis Harmon's discussion Discovery Buzzer in IRIS
"Ok I just finished messing around with everything.  So it doesn't look like RC Passthru works on channels 1-8 as they have a 400Hz refresh rate and standard servos need a 50Hz refresh rate (at least this is what I've read so far in the Wiki and…"

Dax Hafer replied to Dennis Harmon's discussion Discovery Buzzer in IRIS
"You may have to make sure the red safety button is pressed and solid red (ready to arm). Not sure if it will pass through the PWM signals when it is still blinking red. I'll hook a servo up tomorrow and make sure it works like I think it should. As…"

Dax Hafer replied to Dennis Harmon's discussion Discovery Buzzer in IRIS
"Ok if you are using Channel 7, then I believe you will only need to change 2 parameters.  Go to the config/tuning tab in Mission Planner and then go to Full Parameter List.  Most likely a window will pop up warning you that min and maxes aren't…"
