"If I understood your right in your initial post right: both the flight controller and the GPS pointing to the back. In that case you should have not a compass inconsistency, except you haven't calibrated them. You and Chris are right, but i…"

"I just would make sure that you limit the maximum servo position of every servo. I also agree the integral parts could run in different direction, but if you make sure that you have some kind of anti windup for your integrator in a range where it…"

Armin Strobel commented on Randy Sonnicksen's blog post Servo Redundancy
"I was assuming that it would be a cascaded PID. Straight roll/pitch I highly would doubt that it would work reliable, if at all. The integral part might be actually a port of the solution. In normal operation it might could happen that one integral…"

Armin Strobel commented on Randy Sonnicksen's blog post Servo Redundancy
"I understand. Also additional complexity may not reduce the risk if not done very carefully. I agree. Your system needs to be tuned towards robustness that it can handle safely one servo / flight controller failure. You are also right you really…"

Armin Strobel commented on Randy Sonnicksen's blog post Servo Redundancy
"Nice project! I would consider some feedback from the servos that you know which one failed that the other ones can compensate for the lost travel. You may want to consider a module in front of every servo which is connected to all PWM inputs and to…"

Armin Strobel replied to Yograj Singh Mandloi's discussion Swarm for UAVs (Implementing Decentralized Controller)
"The answer depends what on what you want to do exactly. You can control multiple vehicles from Qgroundcontrol, but you need to select the vehicles separately in QGC and tell them what to do. What you need to do is to give all the telemetry modems…"

Armin Strobel replied to Yograj Singh Mandloi's discussion Swarm for UAVs (Implementing Decentralized Controller)
"Based on your questions I assume you are at the beginning and haven't yet developed swarm motion control. Am I right? In that case i would suggest to do a simulation as a start. I would use ROS and Gazebo for that. Further I would start start…"

Armin Strobel replied to Ari Schwartz's discussion How is ATT data calculated in Mission Planner logs?
"EKF is short for Extended Kalman Filter, which is the nonlinear version of a linear Kalman Filter. So you have already what you wanted? In case that didn't answer your question, then you might have to explain a bit more what you do. I would…"

"You are welcome. As usually it depends:-) I am not as much in that topic any more as 10 years ago so I will not really comment on that, but I think it would be great to state what you using (Pixhawk/PX4)? The PX4 software stack uses now an EKF as…"

A 3D printed ducted fan UAV prototype

Posted on May 25, 2015 at 1:00pm 15 Comments

Though Ducted Fans UAVs as of now are not very common, my personal opinion is that this will change in the future, since they have certain advantages over other concepts. Just one single engine is necessary which makes the use of internal combustion engine more viable than for multi-rotors. Also a transition into a very efficient horizontal flight is possible (with modifications).…

UAV swarm

I thought I would post some information about some research I have done.

This video shows a simulation of UAVs swarming with an advanced control algorithms.

Seven UAVs are shown, which find a source of fumes or aerosols by measuring the…
