We've been going through same process of trying to build a bird that met all our needs and had a high level of reliability.  So far the weak link has been in the flight control area.  We loved Pixhawk because of the flexibility it offered but with 3DR bailing on the project, it left us in kind of a bind.  Keep hearing the new Pix is coming out anytime now but when you have a business to run you can't wait on things like that, so the search continues for a high quality, professional level flight controller other than DJI
